At Westbrook, we follow Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised phonics programme to teach phonics and reading. Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised is a phonics programme which has been validated by the Department for Education. Please see the videos below for explanations of how the different sounds are taught. Throughout school, there are a wide range of age appropriate texts available for the children to access. Please see the following recommended reading lists for each year group; many of these texts are available to the children in classroom reading areas.

Each classroom also has a wide range of books for children including a selection of the best diverse and inclusive texts for primary children. Please click on the links below to see some recommended diverse and inclusive books which feature characters that are traditionally under-represented in children’s books. As with the recommended reads, we have many of these texts in school for the children to access.
